This month's assignment for Make Art That sells Bootcamp is to paint wall art on wood.( I just realized that I forgot to write about the first assignment in January, Edwardian brooch journal cover, have to add that to my already-long to-do-list now :P) The mini or warm-up assignment in the first week was to sketch scenes from vintage round plates. I have to confess I was so busy with my DIY work and this week is the week of Chinese New Year in which I have to help my mom preparing food and things to pay homage to our ancestors, that I haven't done any sketches. The result of just diving in making art without warming-up is pretty obvious that you would not have a great piece.
Above is what I have finished. It looks cute but I don't like how it turns out much. There's something weird in the composition. My friend said that the top blue part looked opaque and I guess that makes the top too heavy while the bottom part airy. It should have been vice-versa?
Anyway, it seems that some people love it but I'm going to try again. I may not complete it by the deadline on Sunday which is quite OK. I feel I should have something that I feel happy with rather than stressed out and have something I dislike later.
This assignment is a bit intimidating but I think I'm beginning to love painting on wood now. It's very fun!
